The trail begins at one of the ferry stops. Dependent on the wind the ferry will land at one of the below ferry stops. Since the hike takes place largely on the cliffs, weather and wind can make it a bit more challenging if it becomes slippery. You follow the 🌍 yellow/blue marks of Stockholm Archipelago Trail that overlap the 🌍 blue dots of "Öjaleden". The trail markers are sometimes difficult to find, especially the blue rock trail marks, but they normally follow each other in a north-south direction and will get you on the right track. Understand

History

Landsort, on the island of Öja, is the southernmost point of the Stockholm archipelago. The island has been inhabited since at least the 13th century and has long been an important maritime hub. It has served as a 🌍 sea pilot station since the 1500s and is home to Sweden’s 🌍 oldest lighthouse, first mentioned in the 1400s and built in its current form in the 1600s. During World War II and the Cold War, Landsort was a 🌍 military base for the Swedish Coastal Artillery.

Landscape

Landsort features a 🌍 rugged coastal landscape with rocky shores, sparse vegetation, and dramatic cliffs. The island is relatively small, stretching about 4.5 kilometers in length and 700 meters in width. Its location in the Baltic Sea gives it a unique microclimate with mild nights and cool summers. The whole area is a 🌍 nature reserve and have special regulations like camping is allowed just a dedicated spots.

Flora and fauna

The island is a hotspot for birdwatching, with a 🌍 bird station established in 1988 for scientific research. During the bird migration season, boats to the island can be very crowded.

Get in

By ferry

Landsort can be reached year-round by taking a bus from Nynäshamn to 🌍 Ankarudden , followed by a boat from Ankarudden to Landsort. The ferry ride from Ankarudden takes about 35 minutes and can dock at different locations on the island depending on the weather Ferry stops on the island

If the ferry lands at the North ferry stop there is a bus transport to the village.

Get around

Walk

The island is best explored on foot, with well-marked SAT trail leading to key attractions such as the lighthouse, military remnants, and scenic viewpoints. The hike is a loop, so you can start anywhere on the island."

Bus

Depending on the wind, the boat will choose different harbors. If the boat arrives at the northern harbor, there is a bus that will transport you to the village in the southern part.
