Stockholm Archipelago Trail/Grinda

Grinda Island was purchased by the City of Stockholm in 1944 to provide recreational opportunities for Stockholm residents. A cabin village and a camping area were established, and former military barracks were repurposed to host summer camps for girls. Grinda is a popular island in the Stockholm Archipelago, known for its nature reserve, coastal scenery and that its easy accessable.

The trail begins at the 🌍 South Grinda ferry stop you will find a 🌍 SAT sign next to the ferry stop. The trail 🌍 winds through a narrow forest path, leading to 🌍 a bench with a stunning scenic view perfect for a moment of rest and reflection.

The hiking trail continues north, passing a 🌍 swimming area were you also have a 🌍 simple bbq area, and soon you’ll see 🌍 Grinda Wärdshus, which now operates as a restaurant. After the swimming spot, you’ll find a 🌍 sauna, bakery, small 🌍 grocery store, and the 🌍 guest harbour, where kayaks can be rented.

Heading north along a 🌍 smooth gravel road, you’ll reach 🌍 Grinda Camping, which has 🌍 water access and several 🌍 barbecue areas. Here, you’ll also find 🌍 Grinda North ferry stop, which is not in operation as of June 2025. In the northwest corner, there’s another 🌍 swimming area.

The trail then turns east, following the coastline through the forest along a slightly 🌍 more rugged but enjoyable path, leading to the eastern part of Grinda, where there is a barbecue area. You’ll also pass one of 🌍 Grinda high point.

Finally, the trail 🌍 loops back to the pier, passing through the 🌍 cabin village, where these cabins can be rented.

Grinda is easily accessible by passenger boat. Tickets can be booked through Strömma, but for Waxholmsbolaget ferries from Strömkajen, it's advisable to arrive early to secure a spot during high season.
