Toku is a cloud communications company based in Singapore.[1][2]
History
Toku was founded in April 2018 by Thomas Laboulle.[3]
In September 2021, Toku raised $5 million in Series A funding.[4] The funds were used to support Toku's expansion, including the development of its "Contact Centre as a Service" platform.[4] In the same month, Toku joined Zoom's Phone Provider Exchange Program, facilitating the integration of businesses' PSTN carriers with Zoom's platform.[5] As an Enhanced Cloud Peering collaborator, Toku is listed for organisations to select as a carrier on the Zoom Phone platform.[6]
In 2022, Toku conducted a consumer engagement survey in Singapore that revealed, 87 percent of participants received a scam call, 75 percent answered, and 10 percent suffered financial losses, indicating continued vulnerability to phone scams.[7][8]
In June 2022, Toku became the first in Singapore and Southeast Asia to join the global AB Handshake Community.[9][10]
In November 2022, Toku announced a US$5 million Series A extension, raising the total funding to $10 million. The round was co-led by Delivery Hero Ventures and Malaysia's OSK Ventures.[11][12]
In 2023, Toku conducted the second iteration of its consumer engagement survey, which found that 3 out of 4 Singaporeans were more confident in recognising scam calls and SMS compared to the previous year.[13][14][15]
In April 2023, Toku completed the acquisition of Activeo Singapore, the Southeast Asia operations of Activeo, a France-based customer experience (CX) consulting firm.[16][17][18]
In December 2023, Toku was awarded the 2023 Southeast Asia Cloud Contact Centre Services Competitive Strategy Leadership Award by Frost & Sullivan.[19]
Services
Toku specialises in contact centre platforms, programmable voice and messaging, campaign manager platform, and integration with Microsoft Teams and Zoom Phone.[1][20] The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore has authorized the company to manage commercial SMS traffic.[21]
Initially holding a telco license, Toku now owns over 60 percent of Singapore's virtual numbers.[2]
Gojek, a major on-demand services platform, uses Toku's API for communication purposes.[22][23]
