Surbandar is a fishing town adjacent to the city of Gwadar in Balochistan, Pakistan. Surbandar has a fishing jetty, and around 1,000 boats which regularly dock in its harbor.[1]
History
In 2013, a leatherback turtle was successfully caught and released near the village, with the help of local fishermen and WWF-Pakistan staff.[2][3] In 2016, an endangered sawfish was caught in the waters near the village and sold.[4]
In 2017, the Gwadar Development Authority constructed a jetty at Surbandar.[1]
Buildings
Surbandar is home to a school run by The Citizens Foundation[5] and a fish monitoring center.[6]
Demographics
Surbandar's population includes between 5,000 and 7,000 people who fish for a living.[1]
