Controversies
'India' comment
In August 2023, Velu was giving a speech regarding the word "India", and said that it had no impact on Tamils and India is a place in North India.
Translation of speech:
“What is the state today? The word India never had any impact on us. When has India had an impact on us? I’m making an open statement. There wasn’t any such impact on us. I'm talking about some time ago. Where did we have an impact? There was no impact. India is someplace in North India. We belong to Tamil Nadu. If possible, we have to create a Dravida Nadu. Our thought processwas going in that direction.”
Velu later said the BJP had misquoted his statements.
