Danisa Alejandra Astudillo Peiretti (born 3 May 1975) is a Chilean engineer and politician currently serving as a member of Chamber of Deputies from District 2 of Tarapaca Region on the ticket of the Socialist Party since 2022.[1][2]

Background and career

Danisa Peiretti was born in Iquique to a politically active family. Her parents Luis Astudillo Ardiles (father) and Luz Peiretti Pena (mother) were exiled members of socialist militants. Her sister Luis Astudillo Peiretti, a medical doctor is the mayor of Pedro Aguirre Cerda since 2021. Peiretti received early education at Trinity College in Chile before her family moved to France in 1985. In France, she continued her education at Lycee Champlain educational institution in Chennevieres. She studied commercial engineering at the Universidad Católica del Norte graduating in 2000.[3]

Peiretti's political career started at the university where she served as president of commercial engineering students. After graduation she worked with various government agencies including Housing Service, National Assets and the National Youth Institute. In 2007, the government of Michelle Bachelet appointed her Regional Ministerial Secretary of Planning and Coordination.[4] The government of Sebastian Pinera retained her in the position and served until 2012 when she resigned from the office. She was elected councilor of Iquique in the 2012 municipal elections and served a single term ending in 2016. In 2017, she ran for the District 2 seat in the Chamber of Deputies but lost. She ran again in the 2021 parliamentary election and won with 7,582 or 7.57 per cent of the total vote cast in the election. She was inaugurated to the Chamber of Deputies on 11 March 2022.[5][6]
