
Location of De Smet, South Dakota
Big Slough in Kingsbury County, South Dakota is a local marsh, south-east of De Smet. It is connected to the upper end of Silver Lake[1].
History
Big Slough was written about extensively by Laura Ingalls Wilder in her books By the Shores of Silver Lake and The Long Winter[2][3].
As of 2022, planning was underway for the construction of hiking trails, boardwalks, and an observation tower in Big Slough by the National Park Service and various state and local agencies to develop tourism in the area[4][5].
