The 2024 Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council election is scheduled to be held on Thursday 2 May 2024, alongside the other local elections across the United Kingdom being held on the same day.[1]

Background

The council usually elects members in thirds every year except the 4th in a four-year cycle.[2] However, due to a boundary review of the wards by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, all 72 seats to Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council will be up for election.[3][4]

At the previous election, held in 2023, the Conservatives reduced their majority from the election beforehand by 1, leaving them will 44 of 72 seats, whilst Labour increase their membership on the council by 1, to have 27 seats.[5]

At a by-election for the Cradley and Wollescote ward, held on 3 August 2023, the Liberal Democrats gained a seat from Labour, creating Liberal Democrat representation on the council.[6]
