Apple Magsafe Charger for iPhone Teardown
Background Information
Announced on October 13, 2020, alongside the iPhone 12 series, Apple's MagSafe Wireless Charger is a wireless charging solution designed for iPhone 12 and later. The carger uses a magnetic connection, to automatically align the charging coils with compatible devices, but non-MagSafe devices can be charged with the charger, but must be manually aligned.
As of 2024, two versions of Apple's MagSafe Wireless Charger have been made. The first wireless charger released in 2020 could deliver a maximum of 15W of power, and was Qi compatable, and the second generation announced on September 9, 2024 which served to replace the first generation. The second generation could deliver up to 26 W of power, featured a Qi2 standard, and was announced alongside the launch of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.
MagSafe is the first wireless charging solution Apple released after the cancelation of AirPower in 2019.
