Raichak

Raichak (রায়চক Rāẏcak) is a riverside town in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. It is known for its calm natural beauty, riverside strolling and boating on the Hooghly River. The town is mainly populated by weekend visitors seeking getaway from bustling life in Kolkata.

Understand

The town is surrounded by verdant trees and offers views of the river with rows of country boats sailing by. It makes a perfect escape from the city grind of nearby Kolkata. A beautiful 18th-century fort is testimony to the history. Built in the Anglo-Indian style, the British fort has been converted into a 5-star resort.

Get in

Raichak is about 50 km (31 mi) south of Kolkata.

By bus

Take an ordinary or AC bus from Esplanade to Raichak.

By train

Diamond Harbour  Sealdah South  is the nearest station to Raichak.

By car

Take the National Highway 12 (NH 12), also known as Diamond Harbour Road, and travel for about 35 km (22 mi) to Sarisha. Then turn right and travel for about 5 km (3.1 mi).

By ferry

Get around

Cycle rickshaws and toto rickshaws are main vehicles used to get around the town. You can also get around most of the town on foot.

See and do

Take a ferry at Raichak jetty or nearby Noorpur jetty and go across the river to Howrah (Gadiara) and Midnapur districts (Kukrahati/ Geonkhali).
