Limoges

Limoges is a city in the Limousin region of France.

There is an adequate local and regional bus system for longer trips, operated by STCL. Walking is the obvious choice within the city centre.

• 🌍 Limoges Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Limoges). Roman Catholic church. It's built in a combination of Gothic, Renaissance and Romanesque architectural styles reflects the fact that construction started in 1273 and did not finish until 1888. • 🌍 Chapel of St. Aurelianus (Chapelle Saint-Aurélien). Houses the relics of relics of St. Martial and has stain glassed windows. It also has the most striking feature including the 65 m high tower with a spire surmounted by a big bronze ball. (updated May 2023)
• 🌍 Church of St. Michel des Lions (Église Saint-Michel-des-Lions). The church hosts the relics of Saint Martial, whose worship is organised by the brotherhoods Grande confrérie de saint Martial and the Confrérie des Porteurs de la Châsse.[3] Besides, the church hosts the relics of Saint Loup and Saint Valerie, to which two other brotherhoods are dedicated. These relics are preserved in a 19th-century altarpiece that celebrates the miracles of Saint Martial.Moreover, the church has rich furniture, among which: Two pietàs of the 15th century; Two 15th-century stained-glass windows that represent the lives of Saint John the Baptist and of the Virgin Mary; A 15th-century statues of Saint Valerie. • 🌍 Ceramic factory museum (Musée du Four des Casseaux), 1 Rue Victor Duruy. Mo-Sa 10:00-12:30, 14:00-17:30. is a remarkable industrial heritage site, renowned for its role in the city’s porcelain production. Built in 1900, this large, round kiln—classified as a historic monument—is the last of its kind in France and once fired up cooks up to 15,000 porcelain pieces at a time. Its innovative “flamme renversée” (reversed flame) design reflects the technical advances of the era.
