Kitikmeot Region

Kitikmeot Region (Inuktitut: ᕿᑎᕐᒥᐅᑦ, Qitirmiut) is in Nunavut, Canada.

Kitikmeot has 5 hamlets.

• 🌍 Cambridge Bay — the regional centre
• 🌍 Kugluktuk — often the warmest place in all of Nunavut
• 🌍 Kugaaruk
• 🌍 Gjoa Haven
• 🌍 Taloyoak

Inuinnaqtun (Latin alphabets) are more commonly used in Kitikmeot Region rather than the Inuktitut syllabics writing system that is used in the rest of Nunavut.

During summer season, tourist cruise ships often stop at Cambridge Bay, and to lesser extent stopping at Kugluktuk and Gjoa Haven. Otherwise, you have to fly in to any of the Kitikmeot communities via Yellowknife.

There are no roads connecting between the communities. You will need to take snowmobile or ATV to go to attractions outside of the hamlet.

Gjoa Haven and Kugaaruk are dry communities. Kugluktuk places purchase limits on alcohol. There is no alcohol restriction in Cambridge Bay and Taloyoak.

As all flights to Kitikmeot Region originate from Yellowknife, your only option is to return to Northwest Territories.
