Understand

A town of medieval origin that arose following the construction of the castle in the 12th century, which, due to its coastal geographical location and lack of natural protective barriers, was exposed to continuous maritime attacks and developed very little. The name Amposta derives from the Latin ab posta or amni imposita, which means 'placed on the river'.
