West Mifflin

West Miffin is a city of 20,000 people (2020) in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Its main draws are its amusement park and water park.

Kennywood Park

It is about 7 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

• The Bost Building National Historic Landmark, 623 E 8th Ave (in Homestead), ☏ +1 412-464-4020. A former union headquarters building that commemorates a strike against Andrew Carnegie's reduction in wages at his steel plant here that ended up with Pinkerton guard and striker engagement and 11 fatalities. 

• 🌍 Kennywood Park, 4800 Kennywood Blvd, ☏ +1 412 461-0500, info@kennywood.com. A compact but extremely popular amusement park, founded in 1898. The park contains all the standard amusement park rides, including a Kiddieland, a few splash rides, and several rollercoasters; among them are the "Thunderbolt," routinely named as one of the best wooden coasters in the country by enthusiasts, the "Racer" and the "Jack Rabbit," two historic wooden coasters, and the "Phantom's Revenge," a huge and very intense steel coaster. $74.99. • 🌍 Sandcastle Waterpark, 1000 Sandcastle Drive (in Homestead), ☏ +1 412 462-6666. Open late May-early Sep, times vary. A popular water park owned by the same folks as Kennywood; featuring plenty of swimming pools, body and tube water slides, and a water playground. $35.99 general, $25.99 seniors/under 48, children 3 and under free (parking $20). • The Waterfront, 149 West Bridge St, Homestead — a large outdoor mall with residential living areas, located in Homestead (just north of West Miffin) on property that was the site of the infamous "Homestead Works", a Carnegie/USS steel mill where union and management (in the form of "Pinkertons") literally fought it out in the late 19th century. Home to entertainment such as Dave & Buster's and The Improv comedy theater, restaurants such as P.F. Chang's and Bravo!, and shopping such as Macy's. While here, check out the former steel mill stacks that line the property at the west end.
