Get around

Unlike in many larger Polish cities, English is not spoken at all in Wambierzyce. Menus, signs etc. are often in German.

See

The hulking yellow church on the main square is always full of pilgrims. It contains the popular icon Our Lady of Wambierzyce. Starting on the church grounds, continuing across the street and finishing on a hill overlooking the town are life-sized representations of Calvary. Follow signs to the Szopka- a collection of tiny, mechanized scenes built and painted entirely by hand. These are hundreds of years old but still in working order. Follow the small dirt road to the left of Hotel Wambierzyce to the skansen, which is regionally famous. It has a petting zoo, toy museum, old farm tools exhibit, and in-house restaurant. It also provides quite cheap and comfortable accommodations.

  • 🌍 Basilica of the Visitation (Sanktuarium Wambierzyckiej Królowej Rodzin), Pl. Najświętszej Marii Panny 11. A baroque basilica built in the years 1715–1723, given the title of minor basilica in 20th century.
  • 🌍 Museum of Old Equipments (Skansen Dawnych Sprzętów w Wambierzycach), Wiejska 52.
  • 🌍 Ratno Dolny castle. Built around 1563, rebuilt several times in the following centuries. Partially damaged in a fire in 1998, now in ruins.
