Tattershall

Tattershall is in Lincolnshire. Village historic sites include the church of the Holy Trinity, a buttercross, Tattershall Castle, Collegiate College, and Tom Thumb's house and grave.

• 🌍 Tattershall Castle, Sleaford Road, Tattershall, LN4 4LR (between Horncastle and Sleaford), ☏ +44 1526 342543, tattershallcastle@nationaltrust.org.uk. It is an early 15th-century red brick-built castle by the then Lord Treasurer of England Ralph Cromwell. Is set in grounds which include original the original guardhouse, moats and the largest parish church in the country. Open every day except Wednesday from March–October, open at weekends in November and December. 
• 🌍 Tattershall College, ☏ +44 1529 461499. It is the remains of a former Grammar School for church choristers that was built by Lord Ralph Cromwell who was also responsible for nearby Tattershall Castle. Accessible at any reasonable time. Free. 
• Tattershall Buttercross. An octagonal 15th-century buttercross stands in the Market Place. It is a Grade I listed structure and an ancient scheduled monument. A charter to hold a weekly market was granted by King John in 1201 in return for an annual fee of a trained goshawk. Markets are no longer held but the buttercross remains at the centre of a shopping area. 
• 🌍 Tattershall railway station. Tattershall railway station was a station on the line between Boston and Lincoln until closure. The Old Station House, a stationmaster's house and ticket office, is a Grade II listed building as is the former goods shed. The former railway line has been converted into a cycle path. 

• Kinema in the Woods is an old-time cinema in Woodhall Spa that still uses back projection.
• Water Rail Way is a long-distance path along the River Witham between Lincoln and Boston.

• Tattershall Lakes. A large holiday park with 180 acres worth of lakes. It offers watersports activities, a pool, evening entertainment, golf course and spa amongst other facilities. Its accommodation consists of caravans and lodges at budget and luxury levels. It also has a unique type of accommodation in a 'Canvas Village' whereby guest sleep under canvas but with lighting, cooking facilities and furnishings. 
• Bowman Lodges. It is a holiday lodge company based at Tattershall Lakes County Park, offering a range of lakeside lodges which are self catering, and come with a hot tub. (updated Mar 2017)
• Bainland Holiday Park, Woodhall Spa (18 miles south east of Lincoln). It is Lincolnshire's only five-star rated park, offering accommodation in lodges and chalets. The site has sports facilities, entertainment, places to eat and a golf course. Also open to tourers.
