Susa (Piedmont) is a town and comune in Piedmont in the Metropolitan City of Turin. Susa is a town steeped in history. Capital of the Roman province of Alpes Cottiae, Susa was historically an important stop along the trade routes connecting Italy and France. Today, it is close enough to Turin to be considered a part of the metropolitan area, with easy train access to the city.

This town of 6300 people (2018) sits in the middle of Susa Valley, at the confluence of the Cenischia with the Dora Riparia (a tributary of the Po River), at the foot of the Cottian Alps, 51 km (32 mi) west of Turin.

By rail

  • 🌍 Susa Railway Station. Located on the Turin-Modane rail line, Susa is easily accessed by train from Turin in just a bit over an hour for about €7 each way.

By car

  • Autostrada A32. Main highway linking Turin with France. The drive from central Turin to Susa is about one hour and requires the payment of one toll.

  • 🌍 Susa Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Giusto), Piazza San Giusto. Built in 1029, the cathedral is a Romanesque-style building. The faΓ§ade has terracotta decorations and is joined to a Roman gate of the 4th century, the Porta Savoia.
