Salt Cay is the smallest main inhabited island in the British Overseas Territory of Turks and Caicos. It has a population of 108 and has an area of 2.6 square miles. The only city in the Cay is Balfour Town. The island was colonized by the Bermudians. due to this, the abundance of sea salt on the island was discovered, giving its name, the Salt Cay.
