Rheinfelden is a town divided between Switzerland and Germany with the Rhine flowing through the town and making up the border.
There are two railway stations, one on the Swiss side, and one on the German side.
From the 🌍 Swiss station two hourly IR trains leave in direction of Basel (13 min) and Zurich (1 h) via Brugg and Baden. The S1 trains connects to smaller towns around the area.
The 🌍 German station has hourly IRE trains to Basel and Radolfszell and sometimes to Ulm. Slower RB trains stop at smaller towns nearby.
On the Swiss side the A3 motorway runs just south of town. There are two exits, Rheinfelden and Rheinfelden Ost. A861 connects to A3 and crosses the border (and the Rhine) just west of town. It connects to the German A5 via A98.
The bridge in the middle of town serves as a border crossing for pedestrians.
The highlight of Rheinfelden is definitely the old town centre with the medieval city walls and the Roman era river fortifications.
