Pla de Mallorca

Pla de Mallorca is in Mallorca, making up the central part of the island. Its name means the "plain of Mallorca". This land is used for irrigated agricultural crops (vegetables, wheat and rice), whereas much of the island is mountainous or hilly.

The plain is supplied with water via the orofluvial system coming mainly from the mountains or hills which surround it on 3 sides up to the coast in the northeast of the island.

Els Calderers courtyard

Erimita de Bonany

• 🌍 Santuario de Monti-Sion, Porreres, ☏ +34 609 635282. W-Su 17:30-23:30. Monastery with good restaurant. (updated Aug 2024)
• 🌍 S'Albufera Natural Park. Situated on the outskirts of Alcudia. It is the largest and most important wetland area in the Balearic Islands. Originally a lagoon separated from the sea by a chain of dunes, the area has filled up with sediments, becoming an extensive floodplain. S'Albufera is the Balearic's prime birdwatching location. Some 271 different birds species have been sighted at the park. 
• Randa mountain range (south of Algaida). Rises 540 m above the otherwise rather flat Plà de Mallorca, is considered the “holy mountain” of Mallorca. There are three monasteries here: Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Gràcia, Ermita de Sant Honorat and Santuari de Nostra Senyora de Cura. The latter is best known, especially because of the spectacular view, which on a clear day not only extends across Mallorca but even as far as Ibiza. (updated May 2021)

• Dolmen ("stone tables") of Son Bauló and Aigua Dolça (near Can Picafort). Prehistoric tombs from around 1700 BC are among the oldest preserved buildings on Mallorca. (updated May 2021)
• Necropolis ("city of the dead") of Son Real (near Can Picafort). A large field with stone tombs from the 7th to 4th century BC. (updated May 2021)
