Pacific Honduras

Pacific Honduras is the small but important region of Honduras with ports on the Pacific Ocean.

• 🌍 Choluteca — the regional capital, fourth largest city in Honduras and a major transit point on the Pan-American Highway
• 🌍 San Lorenzo — the main Pacific coast harbour for the whole of Central America. Close to Amapala, the historical port based in the Isla del Tigre.

• 🌍 Isla del Tigre - A tranquil island just off the coast of Honduras provides a convenient stopover for those traveling between El Amatillo and Nicaragua.

The region consists of the two departments of Choluteca and Valle.

Buses depart regularly from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, regularly (every half hour) from Mercado Mayoreo to Choluteca passing through Sabanagrande, Pespire, Jicaro Galan, and San Lorenzo.

There is also regular bus service from the Salvadorian border at El Amatillo to San Lorenzo.

From the Nicaraguan border near Somoto there is a bus to San Marcos and from there to Choluteca and San Lorenzo.

The Nicaraguan border at Guasaule is also well connected to this part of Honduras.
