Marion Island

Marion Island and Prince Edward Island (sometimes collectively called the Prince Edward Islands, even though Marion is the larger and more visited island) are two Subantarctic islands, south and territory of South Africa.

Get in

The only way to travel to Marion Island is as a team member on board a South African research vessel. Communication is served by the ship S.A. Agulhas that travels Cape Town-Marion Island once a year.

Marion Island is run as a research station by South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP).

Marion Island is not a tourist destination and access is limited to SANAP team members. Research team members remain on the island for 14 months, but it is also possible to visit the island as part of the relief team.

There are no shops, eateries or accommodations on Marion island, other than those of the research teams.
