Lubang

The Lubang Island Group is in the Philippines, administered as part of Occidental Mindoro province but geographically a separate group of islands northwest of Mindoro. There are seven islands in the group; Lubang Island is the largest at 125 km (48 mi). Population in the 2015 census was just under 29,000.

Like many other areas in the country, the region has lovely beaches and some good dive sites. It is not yet heavily touristed, but it has some tourist facilities already and more being developed.

There are two municipalities, Lubang to the north and Looc to the south.

Lubang Town is the only substantial town. It is inland from Tilik Port, the main entryway to the island.

This is a fairly isolated area. The last Pacific War Japanese soldier still fighting in the Philippines surrendered in 1974 on Lubang Island. Lieutenant Hiro Onoda was an intelligence officer ordered to take a squad into the jungle, live on coconuts if necessary, and harass the enemy as much as possible; 30 years later he was the only survivor.

There are ferries to Tilik port from Nasugbu in Batangas.

There is a single airport, Lubang Airport (LBX ), but it has no scheduled flights.
