Kananga

capital city of the Kasai-Central Province in DRC and was the capital of the former Kasaï-Occidental Province.

Kananga is a city in the Kasai Region of the DRC. Once destined to become the new capital, this city of about 1.2 million people is now off the radar for most travelers to Congo.

Get in

Twice-weekly flights are available from the capital Kinshasa with Congo Airways. The small 🌍 Kananga Airport is about five kilometres east of the city centre, along the N1 road.

The railway line between Ilebo and Lubumbashi passes through Kananga, however train services are very erratic with at most one departure per week. Cancellations and delays are the norm. The impressive 🌍 Kananga railway station is located right in the city center and reminds of a time when rail traffic was more reliable.
