Great Dividing Range

The Great Dividing Range is a range of mountains running down Eastern Australia. It includes the Australian Alps.

The Great Dividing Range is at 3,500 km the world's third longest land based mountain range. It begins in north Queensland, passing through the middle of New South Wales and finishes in Victoria.

It is one of the few places on the Australian mainland that regularly sees snow, even sometimes in the lower part of Queensland as well. It separates the generally more fertile East Coast from the more arid rest of the country.

• 🌍 Mount Buller Australia's second most famous ski resort, about 3-4 hours' drive from Melbourne
• 🌍 Dandenong Ranges The southern part of the range in the hills just east of Melbourne
• 🌍 Grampians National Park The end of the ranges in the south, in Western Victoria

• Skiing in the border region of Victoria and New South Wales. Thredbo is one of the better known resorts.
• Drive along the Oxley Highway

In winter there can be high levels of snowfall, from the Queensland border southwards.

The excellent hiking opportunities in summer can be dangerous without sufficient preparation of water, food and location devices.
