Labhpur

Labhpur is a town in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. It is home to Fullaratala, one of the 51 Shakti Pithas and Dhatridebata, the birthplace of Bengali novelist Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay.

You can walk or take a rickshaw, which can be a cycle rickshaw, an auto-rickshaw (auto) or an electric rickshaw (toto). Sometimes, if you want to really explore you can just hop on to a cycle van rickshaw. Friendly people might not even charge you for this.

Fullara Temple

• 🌍 Dhatridebata (ধাত্রীদেবতা Dhātrīdebatā). The birthplace of Bengali novelist Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay, converted into a museum. (updated Aug 2022)
• 🌍 Fullara (ফুল্লরা Phullarā, Fullaratala). One of the 51 Shakti Pithas. According to mythology, when Lord Shiva danced around with Goddess Shakti's dead body cutting it to pieces, the lip fell at Fullara, Labhpur. The old temple has been destroyed and a new temple has been built. Only some broken pillars of the old temple remain. There is a big lake beside the temple. According to hearsay, Hanuman collected 108 blue lotuses from the lake when Sri Ramachandra required them for the worship of goddess Durga. (updated Aug 2022)
• 🌍 Hansuli Bank (হাঁসুলীবাঁক Hā̃sulībā̃k). The picturesque confluence of the Kopai River and the Bakreshwar River. The beauty of the area inspired Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay to write Hansuli Banker Upakatha (The Tale of Hansuli Turn), which was later adapted into a movie by Tapan Sinha. (updated May 2023)
