Fouman

Fouman (also Romanized as Fooman, Fūman, Fowman, Fowmen, and Fumen) is a city of 36,000 people (2016) near the foothills of the Talysh Highlands. It is surrounded by gardens, forests, mountains and paddy fields.

It is the capital of Fuman County. Fuman is on the road to the historical city of Masuleh and as a result receives many tourists.

The inhabitants of Fuman are mainly Gilaks who speak the Gilaki language, and the Talysh people who speak the Talysh language. The majority of the inhabitants are Shia Muslims, with a minority of Sunnis present in the city.

It is 21 km to the west-southwest of Rasht, and 356 km away from Tehran.

The city is known for its statues, including the statue of the ancient Iranian goddess Anahita and the statue of the Four Girls.

• 🌍 Rudkhan Fortress (Hesami Castle). A historical fortress 20 km southwest of Fooman city above the heights of Rudkhan village. Some experts have considered the construction of the fort during the Sassanid era and at the same time as the Arab invasion of Iran. This fort with an area of ​​2.6 hectares is located . The castle wall is 1500 meters long and has 65 towers and fortifications. (updated Aug 2022)

• Climb the hill leading to the Rudkhan Castle. It takes almost an hour, and is relatively easy to access.

Fuman produces popular cookies known as koluche. Fuman's koluche is thinner and larger than its brethren in Lahijan.

• Masouleh — This pleasant mountain town is 36 km west and southwest of Fooman. The city is naturally located in a way that leans on the mountain from three directions north, south and west and overlooks the beautiful valleys from the east. This unique painting with its pleasant climate and its traditional and stepped houses has a high architectural value and for this reason in 1975 in the list of national monuments of Iran. In 2007, it was submitted by Iran to the Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
