El Goléa is a city in Saharan Algeria.

Get in

El Golea lies on the N1 on the road south from Ghardaia. Buses headed from there towards Timimoun or In Salah will pass through El Golea. There are several buses (about one every hour during the day) making the trip from Ghardaia. The cost is DA400 and the duration is about 3½ hours.

  • Ksar El Ménia (about a 20-minute walk east of the Place du Marché). This is quite a picturesque castle in the east end of town. There is a brief climb to the top, but the views of El Goléa town and the surrounding regions is quite spectacular. There is nobody regulating access to the Ksar, so one can visit any time and at no cost.

  • Hotel Vieux Ksar (Hotel Old Ksar) (2 km from the Place du Marché. Cab ride is about 200DA). The staff is friendly, there is a restaurant in the hotel, and it offers free wi-fi. DA3200 for a two-person room with shower, but communal toilets. 

Go next

There are buses headed towards the north and south. There are different bus stations for different destinations so it is good to make sure one is in the correct terminal.
