Chlong (sometimes spelled Chloung) is a small town in Eastern Cambodia. It serves as a regional centre for the surrounding villages.

Get in

By road

From Kampong Cham there is a dirt road connection (mostly in good condition) along the Mekong. Take road 223 up to Stung Trang where you can cross the Mekong by ferry to continue on road 308. That way Chlong is about 70 km from Kompong Cham. Share taxis to Chlong don't run along the Mekong but use NH7 and then road 73.

From Kratie head south on road 308 which is partly sealed, partly dirt road in good condition. There are share taxis to running along this road. Chlong is about 30 km from Kratie.

By boat

With the improvement of the roads, fast boats along the Mekong River between Kratie and Kampong Cham no longer run on a scheduled basis. Alternatively you might find a slow (cargo) boat that can drop you off at Chlong.

There is a ferry service over the Mekong.

You can spend a whole day in the town. Along the way to Chlong you may see mosques, local villages, good views of rice fields, and hundred-year-old trees. If you want to have an experience with the people along the Mekong river and see the way people live in this region—Khmer houses, lakes, ponds, animals, racing boats, school children, pagodas, vegetables and the rural area—you can go to this region by motorbike or tuk tuk.

This method of travel helps you to discover the views and life through the Mekong. You may have good experiences via the motorboats from kratie to Chlong. You can visit the islands that are good for swimming and play on the beaches.

  • Local restaurants In Chlong, a round the market , In the Town. There are many food stores where you can test Khmer food and try the new dishes around the market.One restaurant is located near the minibus station, but in the cafe is the best place to have breakfast and cool drinks too.

There are two guesthouses in town. One is next to the market. The second one is a few hundred metres from the market just off the street to Kratie.
