Bolsover is a small market town of about 12,000 people (2011) in Derbyshire. The district of Bolsover contains fourteen small towns.

The major industry of the area used to be coal mining, but it has declined throughout all of Britain. The two main collieries closed in 1993.

Bolsover Castle
  • 🌍 Bolsover Castle, Castle Street, S44 6PR, ☏ +44 1246 822844. A Stuart-era mansion that was "the fantasy hilltop pleasure palace of a horse-mad Cavalier playboy". Explore lavishly decorated rooms, a riding school, and the wonderful recreated garden. For children, there's an interactive exhibition in the stables, and a castle-themed play area next to the café.   • 🌍 Creswell Crags (near Creswell), ☏ +44 1909 720378. Limestone gouge with caves that were occupied during the last ice age. They are home to Britain's only known Palaeolithic cave art. 
  • 🌍 Creswell Model Village. An example of early 20th-century design from the model village movement. Influenced by garden village principles, it provided the workers of Creswell Colliery with modern facilities; it had a tramway to deliver coal to the houses. Designed around a large oval village green with an access road through the centre, the houses are of varying styles. (updated Feb 2024)
