Bhandarej also known as Bhandrey is in the Dausa District of Rajasthan. Located in this small village are many remnants of monuments and temples. It also a gateway to several wildlife sanctuaries.

Bhandarej is an all but forgotten and colorful village with an ancient past. In earlier times it was well known for its terracotta vessels, lattice work and unique sculptures. Much of the area has been excavated. Though only remnants remain, they are an interesting attraction for the traveller.

  • The closest airport is Sanganer Airport (JAI) in Jaipur, approximately 70 km from Bhandarej.
  • The Dausa Train Station is 12 km from Bhandarej.
  • The Dausa Bus Stand is reachable by bus and is 12 km from Bhandarej.
  • Bhandarej can be reached by taxi or private car as Bhandarej is situated close to the Agra highway.

The village roads are generally too narrow for buses and most vehicles. Access by camel or by cart is available.

  • Bara Baoli. (1732 AD) Hindu-style five-storey stepwell is believed to connect to the Palace by a secret tunnel. A popular site for the visitor, Bara Baori has arched windows, traditional paintings and courtyards. Many excellent carvings of birds and animals adorn the structure. It is also a place of some religious importance. 
  • Bhandarej Baoli - a three-storey stepwell in the village.
  • 🌍 Bhadrawati Palace (Bhandarej Fort). Built in the 11th century. This palace was converted to a hotel, it retains its splendour and is an important site to visit.
