Introduction

After 10+ years of good service, my switches are failing one after the other and stop clicking and operating. I finally succeeded to open one and discovered the reason. The switch element breaks in two at its weak spot.

    • the switch button does not click anymore

    • using a plier, turn the 4 frame fixations 30° clockwise to align them with the body holes. You can then slide the 2-element plastic part away from the metallic frame and access its lower side. Return the freed unit to get the lower side on top on your workbench.

    • Tear appart the two half of the body as shown on the picture (you can use a flat screwdriver and insert it between them for a gentle lever). When separated, several elements may fall out of the casing. Put the V-shape spring aside as it will be put back later. Place the contact piece back in the shown orientation inside the groove.

    • We will now focus on the broken plastic switch mechanism and glue it back together. Be careful to orientate the groove on the correct side of the switch (the groove will be needed in the next step). Use a generous quantity of viscous cyanoacrylate (super-) glue and accelerator (or two-compound resin glue) to get a strong bound.

    • After complete cure, insert the glued switch and contact in the body and clip it back together (you should feel some spring effect here). Ensure the switch is clicking again then insert the spring from the back as shown (very hard to bend). One of the spring legs will be guided inside the body by the groove in the repaired switch element.

    • press tightly the three parts together while twisting back the 4 metal pins 30° counter-clockwise using a plier to obtain the completed Niko switch.

    • You should be done now, test the function of the switch using a multimeter before putting it back to work.
