Introduction

Crayons are not the sturdiest of materials because their waxy substance makes them easy to break into pieces when mishandled. Because crayons are widely used, it is important to find ways to repurpose broken crayon pieces for easier handling and reducing environmental waste.

In this guide, we will be melting down broken crayons to rebuild them into easier-to-handle shapes. The procedure can be performed by people of all expertise, but should be handled by those ages 15 and above because of hot materials.

    • While holding onto the mold, carefully pour in boiling water up to the rim of the mold.

    • Your mold may float in the water or tilt to one side while water is being poured.

    • Wait for the wax to fully melt.

    • Be careful when handling hot materials.

    • Take the mold out of the water once cooled.

    • When wax has moderately hardened, loosen the sides of the foil from the wax.

    • Cut a corner of the foil mold and unwrap the crayon.

    • Leave the newly created crayon in a cool and dry area overnight to fully solidify before use.
