Background Information

After swirling rumors and leaks towards the end of 2024, Nintendo formally announced the Switch 2 on January 16th, 2025. They shared more information at Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025, announcing a launch date of June 5th, 2025.

Nintendo Switch 2 is larger than the original Switch, released in 2017, and sports a larger display. It features two USB-C ports now, one on the bottom and one on the top. Its kickstand is lower profile, and the new Joy-Con 2 controllers click into place instead of sliding in to lock. It's backwards-compatible with Switch cartridge games.

Identification

The Nintendo Switch 2 can be easily identified by the large "2" on the back, as well as a mostly-black design with blue and orange accents—different than the original Switch's blue and red.
