Hey! My name is Jindu Li, I am a sophomore student in the UC Davis with Design major.
After completing my degree, I aim to work in tattoo-related jobs. I declared design major and try to explore if there is any field would attract me, which could bring me the satisfaction from designing a project as tattoo.
Here is an image of my first tattoo work.
I started learning tattoo from high school, In the summer break of 2023, I worked full time as an apprentice in my master's tattoo studio for about six weeks. During that time I spent every day tattooing, practicing, and designing tattoos. I also replaced my coil tattoo machines with direct drive rotary tattoo machines because my wrists couldn’t handle the approximately 1lb weight of the machines. I enjoyed the process of tattooing and the compliments I received from clients on my work, but the long hours definitely took a toll on my wrists, cervical spine, and back. That’s why I declare the Design major and decided to explore other options during my college years.
Here’s a picture of the skateboard I put together in the summer of 2023.
One of the fun things about skateboarding is that I can always replace parts that are worn out or that I don't like, like bearings, decks, trucks, etc. Plus I can make minor adjustments to build the best skateboard for me. I'm not much of a social person, and when I’m skateboarding, I can focus on practicing tricks or building skateboard components. But tattoos have helped me learn how to communicate with customers.
