Hello! My name is Brad Winchester.
Major and Aspirations
I'm currently a graduate student at Northern Arizona University in pursuit of a degree in professional writing, my second MA. My wife is starting a non-profit and a consulting business and we are both involved with 19 Media Group, a startup media company. I hope that I can help my wife's ventures and 19 Media Group grow with the skills I acquire through this program. So far, that has been the case.
I have been a teacher for seventeen years, sixteen of which included teaching English. This year is the first year I have been able to teach all Psychology. I'd like to keep doing that for at least the next three or four years before venturing out into something with this degree. Who knows? Maybe a doctorate is in order.

Projects and Repairs
Video not scrapped
Here is a video demonstrating a nearly complete printing press for "Newsies" in 2019.
For the past seven years, I have been the technical director for our musicals. This year I even had the opportunity to write the fall play for our intermediate classes. We have done productions of Les Mis, Newsies, Guys and Dolls, and several others during that time. I constructed a forty-eight-foot barricade, several raised platforms, landings over staircases, and a righteous printing press with a repurposed-suspenders belt and wood from the trash bin. Oh, and I've had to fix an untold amount of broken set pieces, tools, and other apparatus.
Outside of new builds, I refinished and repaired a piano, restored a 1930s tiger oak office chair (usually called a "banker's chair), and have made several pieces of furniture including a dresser. I've repaired that thing more than I care to admit. Give me shelves every time. Drawers are the worst.
Accolades and Hobbies

In my free time, I work with my friend Tyler on our professional wrestling podcast and website for 19 Media Group. It's a blast. We were nominated for the Sports Podcast Award in the wrestling category for this year. I'm proud of what we built and it's still fun to create.
How This Project and Course Relates to Me
My hope is that the skills in this course will allow me to transfer to my students. They want to know more about "how to" instructions, and I know that this will empower me to create guides for our theater and the theater program.
Freya
Here is an image of a robot that Freya and I made for her mom.
My daughter is in my profile picture. Above everything else is her. She's my reason for continuing to push myself, even when I probably should take a break. She keeps me grounded, and she instructed me to help her with one of my all-time favorite builds, a cardboard robot that helps my wife with her work so they get more playtime together. She absolutely rules.
