Hi!

My name is Vincent Lowe! I'm an undergraduate at the University of North Texas earning my B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Biology and Technical Communication. The easiest way to describe my hobbies is in one word, "Nerd." Now, what do I mean by that? Well, if you think of a hobby normally associated with a nerd, that's me! Video games, movies, card games, TTRPG's, board games, comics, cosplay, and the list goes on. I chose UNT for two reasons, the first of which is I got a research position here and was able to begin research 2 days before I graduated High School, and the second was financial compensation! Now that's a fun term, but basically... UNT offered me a scholarship, and I am a sucker for free money.

Shifting gears a bit, I want to talk about my TECM experience. I've taken a multitude of TECM courses at UNT, but beyond that, I have used technical writing since High School. Be it emailing professors, mentors, or networking contacts. Another key area that TECM has applied to me is in professional settings such as ISoP, or the International Society of Pharmacometrics. Now many of you are probably reading that word and going.... what, and I don't blame you. Pharmacometrics is the mathematical and statistical modeling of drugs to help determine to dose, the time between dosing, toxic levels, and more from clinical, preclinical, or simulated data. In simple terms, I make drugs with computers. Pivoting from that wordy definition, the main use of TECM in this field is scientific communication both interdisciplinary and to a more generalist audience.

Again shifting gears, my learning style is very proactive. If I can get a course done in a week, I will finish it in a week so it doesn't loom over my head. This style normally works better alone, but I have had some success in groups depending on the composition of the members. I'm hoping that in this class I can garner skills that can enhance my foundational knowledge of TECM as I move toward my Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences this coming fall.

And for a fun end to this long-winded introduction, I thought I'd add a more nerdy photo showing off my engineering (Both mechanical and electrical) work that I did for a cosplay project.... and yes the wings are fully motorized and open, and close at the push of a button... and again yes it was a pain to make ha!
