Hello! My name is Kirk.
I have been a blue-collar guy for most of my life and want to switch to having a desk job. I fell in love with computers at a young age, always playing around with Microsoft Excel, trying to create ways to track certain things in my life. What appealed to me about computers is their ability to keep track of data and automate specific tasks.
School and Major
I am currently a junior at the University of North Texas. I chose to pursue a Computer Science degree because I enjoy being the behind-the-scenes individual who constantly attempts to solve problems.
Aspirations
I would love to be the guy hidden behind a screen solving problems. Whether at work or home, solving issues is where I find my happy place. As far as what type of computer scientist I would like to be, I am not sure yet.
Accomplishments
I have built four computers and helped a friend make his current one. Each one was fun to create. That feeling of satisfaction when they turn on for the first time is a great reward. I have been in the military for 16 years and awarded many awards. The most rewarding was when I was a Drill Sergeant for four years. Knowing I helped civilians become soldiers was more than enough of an award.
Repair Experience
- Electronics: I have repaired many computers/laptops and phones, whether software or hardware.
- Automotives: I currently work in the 'Test' department at Peterbilt in Denton, TX. So, I have fixed many electrical issues with the trucks and installed various parts.
- Furniture: Apart from being behind a desk, I enjoy going out to my garage, where I have a woodworking shop. Creating something new and being the one that builds it is fantastic in itself.
