My name is Riley Kan and I am a student at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. I am an Aeronautical Science Fixed-Wing Major, and my childhood dream is to become a commercial pilot for one of the major airlines in the United States. Back in southern california where I am from, I have worked as a waiter at two steakhouses. I have absolutely zero experience fixing things - DIY is not my strong suit. In my spare time I love to go flying. Living on the California Coast I have some of the prettiest scenery and the best flying weather, so it makes for fun weekends. These projects will help me improve my technical writing, which I can apply later on in my career field.
Here I am pictured with an old Film Camera. Through highschool I took photography courses, in which I started with film camera; developing film and shooting on film - eventually moving onto digital cameras and editing in photoshop. My love for photography has grown since then, and I find that capturing nature’s beauty through the lense of a camera is something powerful - it’s a snippet of the world in a single moment.
Living about an hour south of LAX, I would occasionally go to plane spot and take photos of landing aircraft. Doing this would combine two of my greatest passions: photography and aviation. I remember when I was a kid, and my dad would take me to the local airport; we would sit and watch airplane’s takeoff and land all day. It has been my dream since I was a kid to fly an aircraft like the one pictured.
