Introduction

Use this guide to replace a worn-out or dead battery in your Samsung Galaxy Watch5.

For your safety, discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling the Samsung Galaxy Watch5. This reduces the risk of a dangerous thermal event if the battery is accidentally damaged during the repair.

If your battery looks puffy or swollen, take appropriate precautions.

    • Take your watch off the charger and power it down.

    • Remove the watch band.

  2. aBVqG1GMCDhFNfnU
    • Use a Tri-point Y00 screwdriver to remove the four 4.1 mm-long screws securing the back cover.

I think the tri-point #000 driver is likely a bit on the small side. I used a #00 tri-tip driver I had on hand and it fit the screws well with no ratcheting. Another person in a later comment mentioned the #000 driver is too small.

    • Insert an opening tool into the seam between the back cover and the metal housing.

    • Twist the opening tool to loosen the gasket and create a gap.

    • Don't try to remove the back cover all the way yet. The sensor flex cable is still connected to the motherboard.

    • Lay the watch screen-side down.

    • Carefully swing open the back cover at the gap you just created.

    • Use a spudger to disconnect the sensor flex cable from the motherboard by prying the press connector straight up from its socket.

    • During reassembly, this is a good point to turn on your device and test your repair before resealing it.

    • Remove the back cover.

    • During reassembly:

    • Make sure the rubber gasket (marked in red) is undamaged. If damaged, replace it with a new one to maintain water resistance.

I could not open my watch with Y000 screwdriver. Instead I used Y1.5 (Y00).

    • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the single 4.4 mm–long screw securing the motherboard.

Any idea what those L B N bridges on the top right set? I have an R915 and it has L bridged.

    • Use a pair of tweezers or your fingers to lift the motherboard out from the watch, clearing the two flex cables.

    • Place a spudger into the small gap between the plastic frame and the battery, opposite the display cable.

    • Carefully pry the battery up and out of its recess.

    • The battery is adhered to the core with mild adhesive. If it feels stuck, lightly heat it with an iOpener or hair dryer to soften the adhesive underneath.

    • Don't try to fully remove the battery just yet, as its connector is still adhered to the core assembly.

    • Lift the battery up enough to access its glued-down connector cable.

    • Use a pair of tweezers to peel the battery connector from the frame.

    • You'll most likely be able to reuse the existing adhesive to secure the new battery. If it's not sticky enough, use double sided or pre-cut adhesive tape.

Note that the battery connector pad is also held in place with a small bit of double-sided sticky tape. Try to leave it in place when you pry up the connector pad so you can re-use it.

    • Use a pair of tweezers or your fingers to remove the battery.

    • Don't accidentally poke or slice the battery with any sharp tools. A punctured battery may leak dangerous chemicals or catch fire.

    • Never reuse a deformed or damaged battery—it's a fire hazard. Replace it with a new battery.

    • To install a new battery:

    • Use tweezers or your fingers to remove the old adhesive from the frame.

    • Use high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and a lint-free cloth to remove any remaining adhesive residue.

    • If your replacement battery isn‘t already equipped with adhesive, apply thin, double-sided tape such as Tesa Tape directly to the battery recess where the old adhesive was.

    • Lay the replacement battery in its recess and press down firmly to secure it.

Conclusion

If possible, turn on your device and test your repair before installing new adhesive and resealing.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

For optimal performance, calibrate your newly installed battery after completing this guide.

Take your e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler.

Are there any recommended batteries to replace the OEM one with?

Caleb Angell -

Hi Caleb Angell, while I can't give a specific recommendation, replacement batteries might be found using the part number: EB-BR910ABY (44 mm model) and EB-BR900ABY (40 mm model).

Is this good for the watch 5 pro too?

Antonella Carletti -

Hi Antonella Carletti, I think it's reasonable to assume so from a quick look at the Watch5 Pro specs and look, but I haven't handled the Watch5 Pro myself and was unable to find disassembly resources, so you should take this as more of a guess.

Manuel Haeussermann -

Thanks for your response Manuel, I'll give it a go.

@antonellac46576 Did you ever figure out if this guide works for the Watch5 Pro?

TechNerd42 -

There Is larger batteries than 590mAh for the watch 5 pro?

João Madeira -

Yes, for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro the battery part number is EB-BR925ABY.

First off, thanks to the OP for creating this guide!

Has anyone checked to see if the larger capacity battery used in the galaxy watch 5 pro will fit in the galaxy watch 5 44mm? Are the two batteries (EB-BR910ABY and EB-BR925ABY) the same physical dimensions? I'd like to give my watch 5 44mm a boost with the larger capacity battery if it will fit.

Regardless of whether or not the larger capacity battery will fit, what brand/seller did folks buy their replacement battery from? Ifixit doesn't stock these, and I've had issues with "supposed" genuine samsung replacement phone batteries that swelled and caused damage to the phone (a note 20 ultra). I suspect they were just labelled with the samsung markings, but were knock-offs.

Philip Reich -

It turns out that the battery for the watch 5 pro is too thick to fit into the watch 5 44mm. I tried it and it won't fit.

I bought my replacement on Amazon, and it seems to be working well. It took about 5 charge/discharge cycles for the new battery to stabilize at its full capacity. This is normal behavior for new Li-Ion batteries, so don't be surprised when, after the 1st charge, the battery doesn't last as long as you expect it to. The first charge only got me 8 hours run time, but after 5 full charge discharge cycles, I am getting 21.5 hours with the "always on display" setting turned on. Not quite as good as the original battery when the watch was new, but acceptable. Here's a link to the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CP7MQVHT

One other comment about this -- although this battery came with a set of tools, it was missing the tri-tipped #00 screwdriver needed to open the back of the case. If you don't have one already, then plan on buying one or you'll be stuck.

Thanks. Brilliant
