Introduction

This guide is intended for the removal/replacement of the hinges in a Samsung Chromebook 3 XE500C13-K02US. It could also serve as guide for similar models. To do so, the bottom case has to be removed, then the wires running from the hinges to I/O board are disconnected. Afterwards, there are a couple of screws that are removed, then the nuts and washers holding the hinge.

    • Place the laptop back cover facing up to expose all nine 4.6 mm screws.

    • Remove all nine 4.6 mm screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Wedge a plastic opening tool underneath the cover of the laptop.

    • Once the tool is wedged between the cover and the body of the laptop, slide the tool around the edge of the laptop to disengage the retaining clips.

    • Remove the cover of the laptop to expose the inside components.

    • Disconnect black and white wire from the I/O board.

    • Remove two 4.6 mm screws from the display hinge using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Rotate both display hinges upward, away from the components.

    • Remove the nuts with a 5 mm nut driver socket.

    • Remove all six washers from each side.

    • Remove the hinges from the bar on both sides.
