Introduction

If your Razer Deathadder Elite has experienced a detached mouse wheel, it can inhibit the functions of the mouse. The following tutorial would be used to help people who encounter this issue and don't want to purchase a replacement mouse.

Make sure you really do have a misaligned scroll wheel by shaking your mouse to listen for any rattling around the mouse wheel. Double check to make sure the middle mouse click buttons are working properly as well.

Don't worry about breaking anything because all parts of the mouse are durable and easily removable.

Before beginning, make sure to unplug your mouse from whatever device it may be attached to.

    • Pry the skate off the two upper screws.

    • Remove the two upper screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Poke a hole with your screwdriver into the product sticker on the bottom of the mouse.

    • Remove the bottom screw using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Lift up the upper shell of the mouse.

    • Use caution; the shell if still connected to the base.

    • Detach the two wired connectors from the circuit board.

    • Unscrew the scroll wheel LED.

    • Carefully remove the scroll wheel.

    I followed this tutorial for a Razer Deathadder Essential, so that I could fix a jumpy scroll wheel. To remove the scroll wheel, I had to remove the two screws that held the board into the mouse housing. This allows you to lift the board up and out of the black frame pieces that hold the scroll wheel in place.

    • Insert the replacement wheel into the mouse.

    If you are trying to fix a jumpy scroll wheel, you should also clean the encoder. This is the round piece component that the scroll wheel is inserted into. To do this, you can pry open the four metal fingers, bend back the metal backing, and then the encoder ring will come right off. In my case a hair fell out, but I also cleaned with some isopropyl alcohol which picked up some grime.
