Introduction

You'll find the battery is locked behind the lid on the back. The two screws to open the lid are taped over by the sticker.

  1. VSLwyZNL2vtnQoDO
    • Remove the sticker on the bottom left corner to get to the first screw or just punch the Philipps screw driver trough the sticker.

    • Do the same on the top right side.

  2. GYRVtEXYQcX1CQXk
    • Be careful when removing the lid not to break off the 3 holders on top of the lid.

  3. fyXlrtMAYCEAiocS
    • Unplug the cable.

  4. TH3YpGBCMlV41WlY
    • The battery is taped with adhesive tape to the case. Remove it carefully with a broad screw driver or spatula.

Thanks for this guide. Saved me from throwing out a keyboard (the MX mechanical full0size) that has plenty of life left in it. This battery is stuck down far too well... I used a pair of iFixit "credit card" battery removers left over from a MacBook battery replacement. You'll need to cut a tiny sliver off the long edge of the scraper, then it fits the battery compartment perfectly. I worked from the end opposite the connector, using one remover as a wedge to keep the gap open and the other as a cutter to cut through the adhesive tape bit by bit. Solvent helps as well.

@stefanpoersel is it worth adding the standard warning about working with lithium batteries at the top? It's a safety issue if someone tries to pry the battery out with something sharp and starts a fire.

    Hi @fidgety,

good point. The tape is really sticky. Getting it off the case is ok, but nearly impossible to peel off from the battery.

Do you have a bullet proof phrase that we can add as safety precautions?

    Stefan

Conclusion

Follow these steps in reverse order to reassemble the keyboard.

Thank you for posting this. I just picked this keyboard up today and decided to watch a disassembly video on YouTube during which the individual reported that the battery was sealed into the back plate of the keyboard which caused me to consider returning it to the store. Clearly he didn't look under the label. Glad to see it's at least serviceable!

Thanks for posting this. This guide also works for the MX Mechanical full-sized keyboard.
