Introduction
In this guide, users will learn to repair a misaligned hole for the strike plate and door latch. Users may need to be careful of wood debris when drilling new holes or chiseling out the shape for the door latch. When selecting a drill bit, make sure that the correct size is chosen according to the size of the screws.

Using your screwdriver, unscrew the top screw of the strike plate.

After unscrewing the first screw, remove the second screw as well.

Remove the strike plate.

Using your writing utensil, mark the spot on the door frame where the door latch makes contct.

Chisel out the wood, using the guideline you just created, that is keeping the latch from entering the hole.

Start at the top of the guideline, then work on the sides to create the new hole.

Grab the strike plate and place it up against the new hole to ensure it is the right size.

If the hole is not the right size, repeat steps 2-4.

Mark the location for two new screw holes, using the strike plate as a guide.

Drill the top hole in, then drill the bottom hole.

Place the strike plate into the new hole.

Screw in the top screw, then screw the bottom screw.

Congratulations, your repair is now complete!

Now that the repair is complete, check that the door latch fits into the hole and that the door is able to close properly.
