Have you ever used your coffee machine and the coffee tasted funny? You probably need to descale your machine. In this guide, you will learn how to descale a Nespresso Vertuo Next Machine.
After continuous use of a Nespresso machine, it is recommended to descale it to remove mineral and calcium buildup. This buildup can negatively affect not only the efficiency of the machine but also the taste of the coffee it produces.
Nespresso recommends descaling their machines every 3 months or after 300 capsules, whichever comes first. It's important to note that using a vinegar solution or a different brand of descaling solution can potentially damage your machine, as cautioned by Nespresso.
Before you begin, place a towel or something to protect the surface you are working on, as the descaling solution can discolor surfaces. If it drips or spills on the counter or workspace, wipe it up as soon as possible to avoid damage.

Plug in your machine.

Empty the capsule container and drip tray, then place them back into the machine.

Fill the water tank with 1 packet of Nespresso descaling solution and 17 ounces of water.

Turn the lever to the left to lock the lever, then turn the lever back to the front to unlock the lever.

Press and hold the button until the light turns off and then starts blinking orange and quickly again (approx. 7 seconds). Steps 5 and 6 must be completed within 45 seconds.

Lock the lever. The orange light should be blinking indicating that you have entered descaling mode. If not, start over from Step 3.

Place a large container (minimum 34oz) underneath the spout.

Press and release the button once to begin descaling.

Discard the solution.

Empty the drip tray and capsule container. Rinse the water tank and clean it thoroughly. Refill the tank to the top with fresh water and place it back on the machine.

Press and release the button to begin the rinsing phase. When the machine stops making noise, discard the water from the container.

The machine will stop automatically and the cup button should turn off on its own.

Refill the water tank and place it back onto the machine.

Empty and rinse the capsule container and drip tray and reinsert it into the machine.

Let the machine rest for 10 minutes.
