Introduction

    • Make sure your Chromebook is fully powered off before continuing.

    • Close your Chromebook and flip it over on its back.

    • Remove the 12 screws holding on the back cover with a Philips #1 screwdriver.

    • Use a spudger or pry tool to release the clips and remove the back cover.

    • Occasionally, one or both of the screws located on the corners next to the hinges will not unscrew. This is because the screw thread underneath has broken off and is spinning as you turn the screw. To get the screw out, unscrew all the others first, then push up on the back cover at about a 30 degree angle while unscrewing the "stuck" screw.

    • Carefully peel back the tape covering the battery and keyboard connectors.

    • Disconnect the battery from the motherboard.

    • Make sure there is not a charger plugged into the Chromebook before disconnecting the battery. Otherwise, it could cause a short.

    • Pull both black tabs on the sides of the connector directly forward to release the cable.

    • Pull the keyboard flex cable out of its connector.

    • Flip the white latch upwards toward the motherboard.

    • Pull the touchpad flex cable out of its connector.

    • Pull the USB board power cable straight out of its connector.

    • This cable requires more force than the others to remove.

    • Flip the black latch upwards toward the cable.

    • Pull the cable to the left

Conclusion

Congratulations! You just replaced your Chromebook's motherboard.
