Introduction

Especially if you are replacing the SSD, you will need the recovery USB to reinstall ChromeOS on the new SSD, or the Chromebox won't boot.
-
Follow the instructions from Google's website to create a recovery USB stick: https://support.google.com/chromeosflex/...
-
You will need an USB stick with at least 8GB of capacity (the contents of the stick will be overwritten!) and a system running the Chrome browser - so it's easiest to do it on the Chromebox before taking it apart for an upgrade.

Gently remove the feet of the device. They are glued on using soft glue and should come off easily.
-
-
-
Gently remove the top. Take care of the connector cable that links the power input socket with the motherboard.

-
You can update the SSD by removing two screws (the WiFi card needs to be removed first).
-
To test the machine without putting it back together, you can use an USB-C laptop charger to power it temporarily.
-
If you replaced the SSD, you will have to use the recovery USB created on the first step to restore the operating system.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
