Introduction

If you're experiencing slower-than-normal or inconsistent playback speed, you may have an issue with either the drive belt or the motor. Replacing the drive belt is relatively simple since you installed this when first setting up the turntable. If that doesn't seem to fix the problem, swapping out the motor should resolve it for you.

    • Use a flathead screwdriver bit to push the tab on the back of the cover hinges

    • Ensure your tonearm is held in place by the rest clip to avoid damage to the tonearm or the rest of the turntable.

    • A #1 Phillips-head bit is recommended to remove these screws

    • Remove and set aside the rubber washers so they don't fall into the turntable body.

    • Flip over the unit and remove the six screws holding the black plastic cover in place.

    • A #2 Phillips-head bit is recommended for these screws, though a #1 will work if necessary.

    • There are no latches on the PCB connector. Simply pull on the connector to remove from the main circuit board.

    • The motor has the serial number: EG-530SD-3F

    • If your replacement part does not include a connector or the necessary wires, you may need to remove and re-solder the new motor to the existing wires.

    • Reattach the main circuit cover with the six screws from earlier.

    • Add the rubber washers back into the grooves around the motor, then look through the washer and line it up with the small holes on the motor (see attached photo).

    • Reattach the dust cover and you're good to go!

Great guide - I was able to swap the motor out successfully. Just to note: the EG-530SD-3F motor I ordered had a JST connector attached, which I had to remove (it won't fit inside the motor housing otherwise). I re-soldered the cable to the new motor as described.

Some additions:

a) Before swapping the motor, try to clean the pulley, sometimes it accumulates some gunk like on the pictures in the guide. That can affect traction.

b) There are replacement motors that have a slighly different pulley diameter. This means you will have to adjust the turntable speed after the replacement! That's what the trimming potentiometers in the holes under the rubber covers on the underside of the motor are meant for. The one labeled "H" is for 45 rpm adjustment, the one labeled "L" for 33 1/3 rpm.
There are smart phone apps that can be used to calibrate the speed, using the gyroscopes in modern smart phones to measure the actual rpm.

c) If you want to avoid touching the belt with your fingers (no need to get them greasy..) use the little tool that comes with the player.
