Introduction
You might think that a kitchen bin is meant to be cleaned thoroughly, but if you put it under the tap for a good scrub and then rinse... well, water will get everywhere, this things are not water proof at all!
This is a very easy guide on how to disassemble and solve the problem.
Tools
-
-
With a philips n.2 screw, removewthe 6 screws that hold the main two parts of the lid together.
-
-
-
You'll probably see water accumulated in a few areas, and everything will be wet.
-
With a paper towel, go throughly drying everywhere you see water.
-
-
-
There are three small screws holding the sensor board. unscrew them to have access to the other side of the board and the plastic lid
-
Optionally, a bit of Isopropyl alcohol with a cotton bud can be rubbed over the boards, and this evaporates very quickly.
-
Make sure to squeeze a bit of paper towel in the sensors cavity, there's most likely water there!

Before reassembling, I cleaned this spring that opens the lid, since I couldn't tell if this was lubricating grease or just disgusting grease. I replaced it with a bit of lubricating grease, but I doubt this is needed.
-
i also added a little bit of grease to the gears at the other side (forgot to take a picture)
