Background & Identification

The Supra was formerly known as the high-performance model of the Celica sedan. Four generations and nearly fifty years later, the iconic sports car returns in the form of the GR Supra. Co-developed with BMW, the GR Supra features many BMW-esque mechanical and interior parts.

Early GR Supras had a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder or a 3.0L turbocharged inline-six-cylinder, the identical engines found in the BMW Z4. An 8-speed Automatic was the only transmission available until 2024 when a 6-speed Manual was made available. The 2.0L engine was dropped for 2025, leaving the 3.0L engine as the sole powertrain.

Many have criticized Toyota for not differentiating the GR Supra enough from its German cousin, as similarities abound inside and outside, not to mention the identical powertrain.

Toyota vehicles in the Americas can be identified by the Toyota emblem, which depicts three overlapping ellipses. GR Supra sports cars generally include an emblem with the name “Supra” styled on the vehicle’s rear end. A black and red badge with the letters "GR" is on the right-hand side of the license plate area.
